TV Series ‘Emerald City’ Based On The Land Of Oz To Premiere On NBC In 2017 – See The Trailer

Emerald City is an upcoming American fantasy television series based on the Land of Oz book series written by L. Frank Baum. American TV network NBC have ordered 10 episodes of the straight to series first season which is set to premiere sometime in 2017.

How much the TV series will be like the Wizard Of Oz story, that we all know and love, is currently unknown, although NBC has allegedly said: “Swept up into the eye of a tornado, 20-year-old Dorothy Gale is transported to another world — a mystical land in great peril, where an all-powerful Wizard has forbidden magic and rules over the many kingdoms. This is the fabled Land of Oz in a way you’ve never seen before – where lethal warriors roam, wicked witches plot in the shadows, and a young girl from Kansas becomes the headstrong hero who holds the fate of their world in her hands.”

Starring Adria Arjona, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Ana Ularu, Gerran Howel, Vincent D’Onofrio, Joely Richardson, Jordan Loughran, Mido Hamada, Florence Kasumba and Roxy Sternberg.

Directed by Tarsem Singh, Emerald City has been developed by Matthew Arnold, who will also serve as an executive producer along with David Schulner and Shaun Cassidy.

Adria who will star as Dorothy, has shared a little something about the upcoming series. “It’s a reimagined, darker version of what we all know of The Wizard of Oz. It’s based mostly on the books more than the movie.”

Speaking about the ruby slippers the actress allegedly said, “They’re not slippers, but I do have something.” The famous Scarecrow, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion and even the flying monkeys will also join her with Adria adding  “I think people will play guessing games [over their identities],” she said. “[They’ll ask], ‘Is that the Lion? Is that the Tin Man?’ It will slowly be revealed. It’s a lot more mysterious.”

Emerald City was supposed to begin filming back in 2014 with a 2015 premiere, but it was canceled by NBC before it even began. In 2015 the TV network is said to have changed their minds and decided to go ahead with the series after all.

I am interested in finding out how the creators will keep the magic of the well known tale alive. I believe it’s going to be either fantastic or a huge flop, one thing wrong and the critics will crush it. What do you think? Let us know in the comments. Watch the trailer below.
